Openvy Cityscape  |  2021  |  3D Illustration

Openvy is the future of Gen-Z conversations. It is a product initiated by Himanshu Khanna which I was able to witness being developed in full motion during my time at Sparklin. One could consider Openvy as a digital cafe wherein, whenever you want to discuss something (a movie, series, sports, event, and/or even your song of the day), a like-minded individual would be around. It is a space for having multiple conversations with automatic discovery!

Apart from working on a product for the first time, I and my junior, Himon Mukherjee, had this great opportunity to create a cityscape for Openvy, depicting the multiple initial topics on the platform, visually, which could be updated as and when required.

The theme was Retro + Futuristic. Since Openvy is a product for Gen-Z, we decided to keep it in dark mode!

Our inspiration was the Silicon Valley title sequence and how well thought the design of the city is.

Trial and Error: This was one of our first layouts for Openvy’s city after studying the reference which wasn’t taken further since we realized that many factors weren’t properly taken into account.

We, the Openvy team then sat again and listed around twelve topics that should be included for starters to the world! The building placement would then be done according to the most hype topic discussed within the team. Going by our theme, we started creating mood boards for each topic's look and feel, as shown below.

Below, are the step-by-step versions of the cityscape.  We started getting the layout ready along with the placement of every topic’s building and the extra details. Afterward, we started adding base colors to every element and chose fonts for all the topics following the retro-futurism theme.

Below, are the colored versions of the scape. We realized that the first one’s color ratio wasn’t balanced. Hence, we added more blues and balanced out the yellows to make it look more futuristic.
